Work & employment
Something feels wrong at work — what is a steady first step?
Read your agreement, jot facts, use workplace processes if safe, then Employment NZ or Community Law if needed.
Workplace problems range from unpaid hours to unfair treatment. A steady start: write what happened (dates, witnesses, messages), re-read your employment agreement, and use any internal complaint or raise-concern process if it feels safe.
Employment New Zealand explains minimum rights and how to get help. Anyone who suspects a breach of employment standards can report it. Union members can also talk with their union. Community Law centres help many people understand options.
If you are unsafe at work or at home because of the situation, prioritise safety — 111 for immediate danger, and family violence leave entitlements may apply after qualifying service. Educational only.
