Travel & transport

Are there fare concessions for children, students, or seniors?

Concessions vary by region — check your local council transport site and Total Mobility if you need assisted travel.

Public transport is run regionally. Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and other areas set their own concession cards for children, tertiary students, and older people. Visit your regional council or transport operator website for current fares and cards.

Total Mobility schemes help some people with health or disability needs access subsidised taxi travel — eligibility is assessed locally. Community Connect and other pilots may apply in some regions.

If transport cost blocks work or medical appointments, mention it to Work and Income or your social worker — some assistance may exist. Educational signposting only.
