Housing & renting
When can a landlord enter my rental?
Landlords must give proper notice for most visits — emergencies are different; check Tenancy Services for current notice periods.
Tenants are entitled to quiet enjoyment of the home. Landlords cannot drop in whenever they like. For inspections, repairs, or showing the property to new tenants, specific notice rules apply (confirm current hours and days on Tenancy Services).
If someone enters without notice or harasses you with excessive visits, write down dates and times, then raise it with the landlord and Tenancy Services if it continues. You can be home during lawful inspections.
Emergencies — like a burst pipe — can justify immediate entry. Know the difference between an emergency and convenience. Educational signposting only.
