Health & costs
How do I enrol with a GP practice?
Choose a local practice, complete enrolment forms, and bring ID — enrolled patients usually pay lower visit fees.
Enrolling with a general practice means that practice becomes your regular home for non-urgent health care. Enrolled patients often pay lower consultation fees than casual patients at the same clinic.
Search Health NZ’s find-a-GP tool, phone practices near you, and ask if they are taking new patients. You will usually need ID and may need to complete enrolment forms.
If you cannot get an appointment soon enough for urgent symptoms, Healthline or urgent care clinics are options. Educational only.
Calm next moves
- Ask about enrolment fees and casual visit costs.
- Register children with the same practice if possible.
- Healthline — 0800 611 116 if unsure how urgent it is
